Jeanie Croope

TV Host and Communications Manager - Retired

Mid-Michigan viewers know Jeanie Croope as the WKAR host whose smile lights up the TV screen during local broadcast specials and brightens the scene at events throughout our community. In her role as Communications Manager for WKAR, she is also editor of StayTuned, social media author, and much more.

Jeanie Croope has degrees in Theatre and Public Relations from Michigan State University, and has been on the air and in our community with WKAR since 1981.

Jeanie retired from WKAR and MSU in September 2013.

It may have been very cold outside but hearts were warmed within as guests saw the first episode of the new season, which premieres on March 31 at 8 p.m. on WKAR.

Literacy Coalition Event Draws Fans

Combine Curious George, Clifford, storytelling, a stage show and lots of opportunities to pick up information about childhood literacy. These ingredients made the Early Childhood Literacy Event a hit with mid-Michigan families. The event was held Sunday, March 17, at East Lansing's Hannah Community Center.

WKAR was on hand for the well-attended event. Beany Tomber, WKAR's education services coordinator said "People loved the performances, the storytellers, the characters and all the activities. They thought it was an awesome event for families!"

PBS Kids Math Learning Tools -- It All Adds Up!

STEM skills are emphasized on "The Cat in the Hat"

“It All Adds Up,” is an effort to help WKAR-area families build kids’ math skills. Through this effort, WKAR aims to boost math learning at home – and everywhere – by providing PBS KIDS resources for parents.

“It All Adds Up” is an awareness effort designed to expand the impact of Ready To Learn, a cooperative initiative between CPB and PBS, with funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Innovation and Improvement, to support the development of early math and literacy skills in children ages 2-8 from low-income families.

WKAR’s Ready To Learn Service will host a Raising Readers Family Fun Workshop on Wednesday, February 27, at Reo Elementary School in Lansing.

The evening presents lively and interactive new ways to build reading skills while having fun with your child. Workshops are targeted to families and children 4-6 years, but siblings are welcome to attend with their families.

The evening includes a light supper. Families will receive learning activities they can do at home and each child will receive a free book.
