A new plan encourages senior teachers to retire now, the new state budget calls for layoffs, and Senate Republicans nix a business surcharge. The guest is Oakland County Representative Tom McMillin (R), a newcomer to Lansing but no stranger to conservative GOP politics.

Representative Tom McMillin, a conservative Republican from Oakland County, was recently elected to the Michigan House, where he will serve on the Education and Labor committees. He is a former county commissioner and was mayor of Auburn Hills. He ran unsuccessfully for Congress and has been active in Michigan GOP politics for years.

Dawson Bell, Rick Pluta and Jack Spencer join senior capitol correspondent Tim Skubick.
