LANSING, MI – Michigan's application for $400 million in federal education-reform money is expected to head to Washington today. But only a handful of local teachers unions support the "Race To The Top" reforms, which could jeopardize Michigan's chances to win the money.
The chairman of the state Senate Education Committee says schools should be required to report student counts every month to the Department of Education.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Michigan have signed an administrative order on a road map for the planned cleanup of dioxin contamination near the Dow Chemical Co. plant in Midland.
The signing was announced Friday. The agreement with Dow Chemical Co. outlines the next steps in a Superfund evaluation of contamination in the Tittabawassee River, the Saginaw River and Saginaw Bay and their floodplains.
