CHICAGO, IL – MSU Senior Allyssa DeHaan carried the Michigan State women's basketball team to a 56-52 win at Northwestern on Thursday night in Welsh-Ryan Arena. DeHaan, who put the Spartans ahead for good with a basket in the final two minutes, poster her third double-double of the season with a season-high 24 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. MSU, which has now won three in a row, evens its Big Ten record at 5-5.
Lansing, MI – This morning, a quiet humanitarian mission is wrapping up in Lansing. Since midnight, a small band of social workers and volunteers have been braving the cold, scouring the streets in search of the homeless. They've been checking on their needs and guiding them to shelter. WKAR's Kevin Lavery went along with them.
Lansing, MI – The Ingham County Board of Commissioners will not be closing the animal shelter, at least not yet. Closing the shelter and eliminating animal control enforcement are on a long list of possible cuts commissioners are considering to close a budget gap.
The Obama administration will spend $240 million to upgrade tracks and make other improvements to help build a high-speed rail line connecting metro Detroit to Chicago. But very little of that money will be spent in Michigan.
