Sources: GM nears terms for initial public offer

DETROIT –
Two people briefed on the matter say shares of General Motors Co. stock should sell between $26 to $29 each in an initial public offering that could happen in mid-November.

The people say the U.S. government is expected to reduce its stake in the company from 61 percent to around 43 percent in the sale.

Terms of the sale are not final because GM's board has yet to approve them.

The people say bankers are recommending that the shares be sold on Nov. 18.

Potter Park Zoo faces millage renewal

Lansing, MI –

Ingham County residents will vote on renewal of a 2006 millage for Lansing's Potter Park Zoo on Tuesday.

Zoo officials say the money generated from the millage of .41 mill is needed for operations and maintenance at the zoo.

Poll: Mich. voters like tourism, movie promotions

DETROIT – A poll of likely Michigan voters shows strong support for two state economic development programs - the Pure Michigan ad campaign and the moviemaking tax credit.

The poll released Sunday shows 67 percent supporting the Pure Michigan tourism promotion effort. Actor Tim Allen is its spokesman.

Twenty-five percent say they're opposed, with 8 percent undecided or not saying.

Fifty-eight percent say they favor Michigan's film tax credit, with 33 opposed and 9 percent undecided or not saying.

Detroit's 58 Halloween weekend fires up from 2009

DETROIT – Detroit reports 58 fires during the first two days of the three-day Halloween anti-arson watch period officials call Angels' Night.

Mayor Dave Bing's office said Sunday that the 58 fires as of midnight Saturday are eight more than at that point in 2009.

Volunteers are working with city officials on a "Watch Your Block" anti-arson campaign.

MSU gets $600K for 2nd-degree nurse scholarships

EAST LANSING, MI – EAST LANSING, MI (AP) - Michigan State University has received a $600,000 donation to provide scholarships for nursing students in its second-degree accelerated degree program.

The grant is from the Helene Fuld Health Trust. It includes $300,000 for direct aid to students in the next three years and $300,000 to endow future scholarships.

The scholarships are for students in the College of Nursing's accelerated second-degree bachelor's program.

Michigan St loss puts Big Ten title in 4-way race

IOWA CITY, IA – The path to Pasadena and perhaps the national title game was laid out for Michigan State - if it could win at Iowa.

That turned out to be a much bigger "if" than anyone imagined.

The Spartans unbeaten streak ended with a thud Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes raced out to a 30-0 lead in the first half and routed Michigan State 37-6.

Stafford lifts Lions to 37-25 win over Redskins

DETROIT – Matthew Stafford's fourth touchdown pass converted a fourth down with 3:12 left and the Detroit Lions scored nine points in 14 seconds to turn a closely contested game into a 37-25 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

The Redskins (4-4) turned the ball over on downs after Calvin Johnson's career-high third score. Washington coach Mike Shanahan then put Rex Grossman in for an apparently healthy Donovan McNabb. He fumbled on his first play and Ndamukong Suh returned it for a touchdown.
