Music of James Niblock Featured on 90.5

To celebrate the 90th birthday of MSU composer James Niblock, 90.5 WKAR will play several of his compositions throughout the day on Friday, November 16, including the Concerto for Violin & Clarinet, "Palindrome", "Paganiniana", "Medieval Suite", "Terzina", and Niblock's arrangement of the MSU Fight Song. Performances are with the Verdehr Trio, except the concerto which is with the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic. 90.5 Classical is hosted by Mark Schwitzgoebel and Jody Knol from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Niblock was a faculty member in the MSU College of Music from 1948 to 1985 where he taught Theory and Composition, performed in the Beaumont String Quartet, and served as Chairman of the department for 15 years. He was also concertmaster of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. He still actively composes, performs and conducts.
