Trifecta is a research initiative launched by Michigan State University’s Colleges of Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS), Engineering (EGR), and Nursing (NUR). “Trifecta” usually means successfully betting on the first three winners in a horse race. In this case, the Trifecta is three colleges – CAS, EGR, and NUR - that have joined forces to maximize interdisciplinary research collaboration.

The mission of Trifecta research collaborations is to reduce health disparities by developing applied innovations that improve health outcomes and the organization and delivery of health services through new communication and engineering technologies.

Trifecta Outreach Specialist Purpose: 
To support the Director of Trifecta and the researchers involved in the Trifecta initiative, to plan, communicate, and disseminate relevant information that will enhance collaboration between the three colleges in efforts to use technology and communication tools to develop applied innovation to improve health care, outcomes, and disparities.

Position Summary:
The Trifecta Outreach Specialist will work with the Director of Trifecta to plan, coordinate, and execute specific activities designed to increase interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunities between faculty in the colleges of Communications Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Nursing.  This person shall also be responsible for maintaining communication with Trifecta faculty, students, and administrators.  The Outreach Specialist will work directly with the Director of Trifecta to coordinate events that will promote and support the mission of Trifecta, to research health disparities by developing applied innovations that improve health outcomes and the organization and delivery of health services through new communication and engineering technologies.  The Outreach Specialist shall provide resource identification and data gathering support to Trifecta PI’s and the Director of Trifecta.

Responsibilities

Plan, communicate, and disseminate relevant information that will enhance collaboration between the three colleges in efforts to use technology and communication tools to develop applied innovation to improve health care, outcomes, and disparities.

  • Identify, curate, and share information about funding calls relevant to Trifecta research
  • Support activities of the Trifecta Intellectual Leaders group
  • Lead outreach to faculty and students
  • Contribute to agenda development for leadership meetings
  • Coordinate unified communications across three colleges
  • Plan event logistics
  • Support graduate level course development and coordination
  • Develop promotional materials including but not limited to:
                   One-page briefings
                   Fliers
                   Social media content
                   Website content
  • Implement strategic communications plan
  • Maintain archive of communications, materials, logistical documents, contacts, agendas, etc.
  • Work closely with the Trifecta Director to coordinate and plan activities
  • Manage listserv
  • Collaborate with communications staff to design and maintain website
     

Preferred skills?
Familiarity with research and funding processes and institutions
Adobe InDesign
Highly proficient with: Microsoft office: Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Excellent written and verbal communication
