Tips

Our Windows Media stream features improved listening quality for ISDN and broadband users. Users wishing to receive these higher bit rates should upgrade their players to the latest 9 series player for their platform.

NOTE: Windows Media Player cannot be used to listen to archived files or the WKAR AM webcast. Realplayer is required for these other services.

Troubleshooting

Some interruptions in playback are normal, as we are dependent on all parts of the Internet that connect you to us. Any kind of network failure or degradation that results in lost packets will usually be experienced as stuttering, dropouts or long periods of rebuffering. These effects can usually be minimized by adjusting some player settings.

First, restart the computer. If, after a restart, you continue experiencing playback interruptions, try this first:

In the Media Player main menu, select

  • Tools and then
  • Options

Under Network

  • uncheck UDP and Multicast.
You might need to close Media Player and restart it to have it use the changes.

If playback interruptions continue:

In the Media Player main menu, select

  • Tools and then
  • Options and then
  • Performance

Under Network Buffering

  • select Buffer X seconds of content.
  • change X to 10
If you still get interruptions, you can increase the number seconds to 60, BUT the price is it takes longer before the player will play.
