Good Health is for EveryBody Good Health is for EveryBody

“The first few months have been setting the ground work for the project,” says Cynthia Schneider, outreach and project coordinator.

Components completed so far include development of  web pages, and three issues of the bi-monthly Good Health is for EveryBody! newsletter.
WKAR Enters Second Phase of Good Health Initiative

WKAR is entering the second year of its community effort --  Good Health is for EveryBody! The project began in the fall of 2006 and is a three-year outreach initiative that  focuses on nutrition, exercise, and health education, with the target audience being children ages 2-8 years (pre-K to 3rd grade), parents, and families.  Primary focus is given to the health needs and concerns of residents of mid-Michigan and to the people living and working in the local communities that we serve.

Recently, Capital Area Head Start (CACS) and WKAR  received  a childhood nutrition and education grant from KERA of Dallas, Texas, to help continue the Good Health! project. Called the Little Bites, Big Steps Early Childhood Nutrition and Fitness Project, this grant is designed to help provide nutrition and fitness education and training to parents and caregivers of young children 0-5 years of age, to help families implement healthy lifestyles.

CACS will teach the nutrition education agenda as part of their classroom instruction along with other proposed activities. WKAR will produce online video and a variety of downloadable print materials on its website for general public viewing.

“The grant offers the Good Health! project an additional $10,000 in revenue,” explains Schneider. “The project is also receiving $10,000 in in-kind services from CACS and WKAR, and receiving the monetary grant has given the project a much needed boost.”

"We are still in the process of seeking additional funding for the remaining life of the project,” says Schneider. “Good health is important and should be a high priority for everybody."
