Catch the "Prairie Home Companion" Rhubarb Tour
If you’re a fan of public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion (PHC) program, you may know that during August Garrison Keillor and company figuratively “pack up the motor home” and embark on what they call the “heart and soul” of the program – The Rhubarb Tour!
This year they’ll visit 17 cities across the country in 22 days with stops in California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. And along for the ride will be Guy Noir, Fred Newman, Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band, and Suzy Bogguss.
According to Keillor, PHC’s creator and host, “Rhubarb” is the code word for a non-broadcast PHC show – which means there is not a running clock nor do they have to try to “jam” everything into two hours.
The tour shows will feature Guy Noir reminiscing about his salad days in the P.I. business, while Fred Newman will amaze everyone with the wizardry of his verbal sound effects. Country music singer Suzy Bogguss will also join in the fun. Keillor says he’ll tell stories about his favorite “little town” and everyone will sing God Bless America.
For further information about the 2008 Rhubarb Tour, including schedule and ticket information, visit WKAR.org, click on 90.5, next click on the weekly schedule, and then on A Prairie Home Companion.
And stay tuned…the 35th anniversary of PHC broadcasts opens on October 4…which just happened to be 90.5 WKAR’s 60th anniversary. Happy Anniversary to all!
