A Time To Give
One of Pete Seeger’s best-known songs, “Turn, Turn, Turn,” draws from Ecclesiastes to speak of the times of life…”A time to plant, a time to reap…a time to laugh, a time to weep.”
Celebrate Seeger’s life and career during our final on-air membership campaign of this fiscal year, beginning Thursday, May 29, and continuing through June 8.
We’ll also find a “time to laugh” with comedian Rita Rudner, a time to dance with Celtic Thunder, and time to heal with Dr. Michael Roizen and two programs on the brain. Here are some highlights of newer programs.

American Masters: Pete Seeger: The Power of Song
Thursday, May 29, at 8 p.m.
American Masters tells the story of Pete Seeger in The Power of Song, an eloquent and timely look at a man whose life has been dedicated to three things – his music, his family and his activism. The special follows Seeger’s life, highlighting his days during the blacklist of the 1950s, his efforts for peace during the Vietnam War and his quest to preserve the environment.
Celtic Thunder
Friday, May 30, at 8 p.m.
This special features the five Celtic male vocalists who celebrate their heritage and the role of the Celtic men – their loves, attitudes, individuality, power and strength throughout life’s journey. Included are ensemble numbers and solos showcasing each members’ vocal style and personality.
Timeless: A National Parks Odyssey
Saturday, May 31, at 11:30 p.m.
Using special cameras and cinematography techniques, David Fortney captures the beauty inside America’s national parks. Complimented by an exquisite score by Patrick O’Hearn, this journey through our National Parks captures their beauty in ways never seen before. With its breathtaking cinematography, viewers get the sense of soaring over and through the landscape on a journey they don’t want to end.
Rita Rudner: Live from Las Vegas
Saturday, May 31, at 10:30 p.m.
Rita Rudner celebrates the 2,000th performance of her popular Las Vegas act in this special. Rudner’s lethal wit is wrapped up in a soft-spoken delivery that captivates audiences with clever observations and sharp timing. Her act covers such diverse topics as relationships, family and the importance of cleaning ladies.
Good Evening Ev’rybody: In Celebration of Louis Armstrong
Sunday, June 1, at 7 p.m.
You are front-row and center for a -before-released concert performance of Louis Armstrong — and other musical greats — at the 1970 Newport Jazz Festival in celebration of Armstrong’s 70th birthday. Armstrong performs several of his greatest hits throughout the concert and rehearsals, including “When It’s Sleepytime Down South,” “Pennies From Heaven,” “Blueberry Hill,” “Hello Dolly,” “Mack the Knife” and “What a Wonderful World.”
Branford Marsalis hosts Good Evening Ev’rybody: In Cenebration of Louis Armstrong. In addition to Armstrong, some the finest musicians of the era, including Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Owens, Bobby Hackett, Wild Bill Davison, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and others, perform with the jazz legend. It’s believed that this is the last filmed concert performance of Louis Armstrong, who died July 7, 1971.
Under the Sea with Al Giddings
Sunday, June 1, at 8 p.m.
During the past three decades, Al Giddings has earned a reputation as one of the most creative and talented director-producer-cinematographers in the entertainment industry. Never settling for off-the-shelf technology, Giddings is constantly designing innovative cameras, lighting and optical systems in all film and video formats, from IMAX to high definition. Under the Sea is both a profile and journey into his underwater world.
Giddings is well known in the entertainment industry for his creative directing and undersea camera work, demonstrated in such classic films as The Deep and the James Bond classics For Your Eyes Only and Never Say Never Again, as well as The Abyss and Titanic.
But he is well-known to public television fans for programs included in Nova, Life on Earth, Nature and The Living Edens: Palau as well as many Discovery Channel programs.
