Following is the press release for this event: Friends of the East Lansing Public Library March 22, 2018 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Maureen McCabe-Power LITTLEMO668@littlemo.org 989-798-7775 FRIENDS' SPECIAL ART DISPLAY For April, The Friends' art show at East Lansing Public Library will be a display of its collection of local artists. This will be the first time the Friends have featured the collection as a whole, and all items will be for sale. Some readers will remember that many years ago, The Friends had an art leasing program. The works of many artists were donated or purchased for this program. Some of the artists have become even more notable over time. Although they no longer lease the art collection, the Friends have displayed a rotating sample of these pieces in the Friendshop, as space allowed, and several pictures have sold. With research help from the Friendshop director and other volunteers, friends and relatives of various artists have located forgotten pieces and purchased them as keepsakes. One enthusiast has chosen several pieces he likes, and taking his chances they will still be available, is purchasing them one by one. Many people who look up from perusing the shelves of books in the shop are amazed to discover original art work above the bookcases and purchase something on the spot. As the Friends offer pieces from the collection at very good prices, some purchasers pay more than asked to make a donation. Now the Friends have decided to showcase the collection, including pieces never displayed in the shop. For the April show, these pieces will be displayed on the north wall of the cybercafé and on the east wall of the carrels area as is usual, but larger items will also be displayed on the north wall of the public meeting room. In the far northwest corner of the library, the meeting room will be open during a variety of events through April, and library staff will also unlock this room by request when someone wants to view or purchase the artwork there. FOELPL volunteers with expertise have curated the art collection, researched the artists, and will provide useful information with each picture on display, as well as a fair price. People can arrange their purchase at the library service desk, and will agree to leave the artwork on display through April. If you remember a picture from the days of the leasing program and always wished you owned it...if you like a local artist whose work you wish you could afford...if you want to brighten up a room at home or work...this art show may well be the opportunity for you. And if you find something you want, you have the satisfaction of knowing the purchase price will benefit your community library. Sheila Taylor hgordontaylor50@gmail.com 517-332-3106
