Event Description

Charity Golf Tournament (Fight Opioid Overdose Deaths and Addiction)

Mid-Michigan Recovery Services is working to expand our residential and housing services. This will allow us to serve more homeless community members who have chronic health issues related to substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. Help us to expand our service to homeless and indigent community members in need by joining us at this fun silent auction and awards reception. Did you know that the first use of alcohol and/or drugs is 12 years of age? Usually as a result of inability to cope with stress; curiosity and or peer-pressure. No one thinks the unthinkable will happen to them and yet accidental overdose (drug poisoning) has surpassed automobile collisions as the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S. This increase has been largely driven by mis-use of prescription drugs. "Seriously, ask yourself, have I ever been offered someone elses prescription when I've complained of pain or illness? Or have you overheard someone who has?" Asked MMRS Inc. Executive Director, Jessica Robinson. Rising numbers of fatalities and a lowering age of first use are two major warning signs of a larger issue which should be prioritized. Appropriate healthcare and access to supportive services to address the many issues associated with addiction and drug mis-use is important! We are asking the community to rally for recovery at this fun event. Y "You don't have to be a tee-totaler to tee off with us," said Robinson. "Our event will be a full-service charity golf drive with all the food, beverages fun and prizes as other charity events." Let's break down the stigma of substance use by realizing that substance use disorders and the disease of addiction should be handled just as other disorders and diseases are handled. With approrpiate access to healthcare and support. Please join us, showing your support by participating in our 2017 Recovery Shot Golf Tournament, Thursday, September 14, 2017 or participating in the Silent Auction Reception immediately following the Golf Tournament (3:30 p.m.) to celebrate community wins, enjoy hors d'ouvres and bid on your favorite items.
